Etienne’s little daughter was at risk of dying from malnutrition and tuberculosis—but thanks to your support, we were able to save her.
In the heart of the village of Kisikama, little Honorine, Etienne’s daughter, was fighting for her life.
When Etienne arrived at the Kabunda Health Center, the child was extremely thin and suffering from a severe cough. The staff at the Center examined her immediately and quickly understood the seriousness of the situation: she was suffering from severe acute malnutrition, worsened by tuberculosis, and needed to be transferred to a better-equipped facility without delay.
Her father Etienne, a farmer with limited resources, had no idea how he would afford the medical costs—a barrier that is insurmountable for many families in the region.
Help came from our team, who, recognizing Etienne’s distress, assured him that the transport, hospitalization, and all medical care—including food for the accompanying person—would be completely free of charge. This made it possible to transfer Honorine to the General Hospital, where she was admitted.
After several weeks of intensive treatment for both malnutrition and tuberculosis, Honorine began to recover.
Thanks to your invaluable support, in recent months we have been helping families like Etienne’s in Kwango, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Here, malnutrition affects more than 10% of the population—especially children under five—which is why we have launched multiple interventions, including emergency transport to health facilities, a vital service in an area where long distances often prevent access to care.
