The challenge of freedom in the Gaza Strip

The screening of the “Gaza Surf Club” and meeting the Palestinian activist Mohammed Matter spoke straight to the hearts of the public. An occasion coordinated by COOPI Suisse during the fourth edition of the Human Rights Film Festival in Lugano.

The Festival, which aims to raise awareness among the public of Ticino and primarily directed to young people and students, gave COOPI Suisse the opportunity to talk about the stories of the young Palestinian protagonists of the documentary and hear in person the words of Mohammed Matter who has personally experienced and lived the conflict and its devastating outcomes.

Courageous surfers despite all: some have been arrested more than fifty times and have made several attempts to escape from Gaza. These surfers are the living symbol that even in the Gaza Strip, “the largest open-air prison in the world”, the spirit can be free.
